BARRIO BOXES

Brief

Barrio Boxes is a building toy that uses rubber bands to secure, suspend, and connect various houses together in order for children to create a neighborhood of their imagination. The modular building style of the Barrio Boxes takes inspiration from various architecture in the real world and in anime such as Howl’s Moving Castle and Tekkonkinkreet. The buildings are designed to be stacked or suspended on top of one another, on the floor, from a branch, or existing furniture. Barrio Boxes was designed to be built upon and interacted with existing toys and structures.

GOALS FOR THE PROJECT

To create a toy that could keep up with the many ways that a child builds

To challenge children to use their imagination to balance, stack, hang, and link buildings together

To encourage collaboration between children to make their towns come to life
